Journal Assignment #13: Book Cover Redesign Roundup

25 04 2011

“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”

“I hope she’ll be a fool – that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

“With a secret like that, at some point the secret itself becomes irrelevant.”

“But all endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.”

“If you don’t want to sink, you better figure out how to swim.”

“I’ve always relied highly on the kindness of strangers.”

“Like everyone else, he’s only made up of the people around him.”

“And that’s the really nasty thing because then, when you’re clean, that’s when it works so well.”

“On my way out, I was even going to shake his hand, but just in time, I remembered that I had killed a man.”

“What’s it going to be then, eh?”

A combination of slab serif, wedge serif, and calligraphic style typefaces, audace is a display font used for both bold and fancy occasions. Created with the use of initial capitals and short titles in mind, this heavy typeface has the strength of a thick serif as well as the allure of a hand rendered script. Audace’s smooth curves and large bulbous tail ends allow it to be used for various purposes.

Week 6: Uppercase Sketches

With my sketches for my typeface, I have found that I was drawn to both block lettering as well as handwritten lettering. I would like to go with something that looks more handwritten like the fifth sketch I did. Within the template of using hand-lettering/cursive, I’m thinking I would like to combine that with large serif somehow and make it look as though two typefaces are fused together. I am a big fan of handwriting in general so adding serifs to the letters that are supposed to look like cursive will give it a new twist.
